Congratulations Espen on Ninja Warrior

Xtreme Athlete member Espen Wold-Jensen took his strength, movement skills and Viking Warrior spirit to Australian Ninja Warrior after training with the gym since 2013.

Congratulations to Espen Wold-Jensen on his performance in episode one of Channel 9’s Australian Ninja Warrior. Known on the course as the Viking Warrior, Espen brought athleticism, personality and years of preparation to one of Australia’s most visible physical challenges.

Part of the Xtreme Athlete story since 2013

Espen had been part of the Xtreme Athlete gym community since 2013. Long before the television lights, his training was built through the less glamorous work that underpins performance: developing strength, repeating movement patterns, improving body control and continuing to train when there was no audience watching.

Nikolai affectionately described Espen as the Ragnar to his Rollo, a reference that captured both the Viking persona and the friendship behind the result. That sense of connection is important. High-performance training can be demanding, but the right environment gives athletes people who understand the work and share the excitement when an opportunity arrives.

Preparing for an unpredictable challenge

Ninja-style obstacle courses are difficult to prepare for because they combine so many qualities. Grip strength alone is not enough. An athlete must also coordinate momentum, control body position, make fast decisions and recover composure when a movement does not unfold exactly as expected.

  • Relative strength helps an athlete move and control their own bodyweight.
  • Grip endurance supports repeated hanging, swinging and pulling efforts.
  • Mobility and coordination create more options when obstacles are unfamiliar.
  • Conditioning helps preserve technique as fatigue builds.
  • Confidence comes from preparation, but adaptability matters on the day.

From episode one to the semi-finals

Espen’s performance earned him the opportunity to take on the semi-finals. For everyone at Xtreme Athlete who had seen the years behind that moment, it was an achievement worth celebrating. The television appearance was exciting, but the deeper result was seeing a long-term member test his capabilities on a national stage.

Congratulations, Espen. The Viking Warrior represented himself and the Xtreme Athlete community with strength, character and plenty of memorable style.
